Well, after experience a wonderful dining, it's time for the girls to pamper their nails!

I went to the Visage located along Orchard Road at Delfi Orchard, and definitely had a great experience there! From their service, ambience to their professionalism, I'm sure you will be very satisfied once you had experience it before, just like me!

Once I step into their shop, I can feel an authentic feel of Asia filled with natural woods. The earthly shades of rust and terracotta makes it an ethnic and rustic Balinese ambience. They have individual treatment rooms as they not only provides manicure and pedicure, but provides services such as spa, body waxing etc. The rooms are furnish with specially selected antique furniture and the air is lightly scented with aromatic oils, together with the Balinese therapeutic music playing in the background, all this contributes to the relaxing atmosphere. I'm sorry that I can't post any pictures up to let you guys have a better feel of their great environment as my camera was down when I went down that day :(

Oh well, I guess you guys must go down and experience it yourself then :)

They have different kind of packages for manicure and pedicure:
Manicure for SGD 25, consisting of shaping, filing, polishing your nails and a hand massage,
Pedicure for SGD 40, consisting of shaping, filing, sloughing, polishing, your toenails, toping it all off with a foot massage.
If you would like to have any special design and effects on nails for various occasions, they charge it at SGD 12 per nail. I can guarantee you that it is definitely worth the money!

They even have premium packages ranging from SGD 60-90, consisting of nail therapy and treatment. You can take a look at the details at this website:
http://www.visage.sg/

If you think that this is a little out of your budget, I've more for you! Since our blog name is called "cheapthrills", of course we will include great deals for you!

I heard from my friend that there is a newly opened shop - Bearly Nice Nails at Tampines Central which offers cheap but good services! I went to check it out just yesterday and totally agrees with my friend! Eventhough it is just a very small shop, but they have professional manicurists to do the best nail services for you.
Not to mention that they have different range of packages suitable for different income groups.
They have really cheap ones like the express manicure and pedicure, priced at SGD 8 and 10 respectively. They also have those classic ones ranging at SGD 20++.

Another one is the Good Earth Nail Spa at Plaza Singapura offering nail services at a very affordable price! Express manicure and pedicure is only priced at SGD 10 and 15 respectively with 2 free nailart thrown in! A totally value for money package! However, because of the high turnover, the place is rather crowded most of the time and a little cramp :( But the great services and professional manicure/pedicure make it all up :D

Cheap deals can also be found in this shop -Venus located at the Bugis Village. They provides express manicure and pedicure at only SGD 8.90 each! You can even choose to add a nailart at only SGD 1 per nail. Definitely a worth deal and you can go for relaxing, after shopping at the bugis street.

I hope after sharing my experience with you, you are tempted to go for one! If yes, don't hesitate and start pampering your nails!

This entry, I’ll be bringing you around Singapore to try the most delicious cuisines you can ever find; and to be in-line with our blog name, cheap thrills, these food joints are of course the cheapest you can find in town!

Sin Huat Eating House
659-661 Geylang Lorong 35 (at the corner of Geylang Road), Tel: 6744-9755

It's got the dubious honour of being the priciest zhi char joint in town. But why bother the priciest tag it carries, their food is damn shiok! (good in singlish) Their famous crab bee hoon is seriously worth getting down and dirty for: massive Sri Lankan crustaceans house sweet, super succulent flesh while moist loops of bee hoon kissed with wok’s breath are a dreamery conduit for the crab’s juices and orange roe. I just couldn’t resist the temptation and downed 5 bowls of the crab bee hoon! Besides the crab bee hoon, try out their scallops in a thick, peppery sauce. This is the best zhi char joint you can ever find in town!

The Roti Prata House
246M Upper Thomson Road, Tel: 6459-5260

Yet another cheap, tasty stomach-filler at 60 cents for a prata kosong (plain prata). Just like the Pizza Hut’s pizza, Prata House’s prata comes in many different flavours and fillings. Just that they do not provide any delivery service. (HAHA!) Anyways, Prata House is a must-try eateries in Singapore. Their just-right prata texture, tender and spicy tandoori chicken and huge portion of nasi briyani makes me walk back to their eatery whenever I’m craving for a prata (even if I’m on the other side of the island!).

Mohd Razeen & Bro’s Cafe
20 Baghdad Street,

Arab Street may not be the most deserted place, this cafe is relatively quiet. This is the best place to enjoy their frothy milk teh tariks (‘Pulled’ Milk Tea) after shopping along Haji Lane or Bugis Street. Not missing out the cold, lame and corny jokes cracked by cute old Indian uncles. Honestly speaking, I had a good time laughing there, especially when the uncles talk about their lives. Oh! And if you’re trying to call them, you can forget about it, because Baghdad doesn’t have a fixed telephone line (as told by one of the uncle. HAHAHA!)

Eng Seng Restaurant
247 Joo Chiat Place

You may call me crabby (or just plain crazy), I queued up for more than two hours to get a table there. But the wait was worth it because of their heavenly shellfishes. Their awesome shellfishes are gently steamed before being tossed in a gooey sauce heaving with crushed black pepper and garlic. What I can say at the end, NO PAIN, NO GAIN!

International Food Stall Nasi Lemak
#01-57, Changi Village Food Centre

Despite the fact that the hawker centre is teeming with countless other nasi lemak stall, this one continues to draw the longest lines of mostly Chinese patrons (Chinese aren’t Kiasu! Or maybe some..). But still, the nasi lemak here is the best one around. The coconut rice is fluffy and well-flavoured, and the chicken wing nicely marinated and crunchy. You can drop by here before heading to the airport (Changi Airport).

Haron 30 Satay
Stall 55, East Coast Lagoon Food Village, Tel: 6441-0495

What is going to the beach without any food? Go down to the nearby food village at East Coast and try out Haron’s fabulous satay, charcoal-seared, melt-in-your-mouth silvers of meat and murky pools of rich, nutty gravy. Complementing the satay are some of their specialties, home-cooked curry and mee goreng. To make it complete, find a table near the seaside and enjoy the soothing sound of lapping waves. Trust me, a dozen of satay isn’t enough, I had 2 dozens just by myself.

Basil Alcove
190 Middle Road #01-07, Fortune Centre, Tel: 6336-1318

Ever tried an al fresco dining on the busy sidewalk of Singapore? Basil Alcove is just the place. It was a rather weird experience, I admit. But their food just covers up everything. So, start nibbling on their pan-seared chicken avocado with tomato and peach chunks for just SGD $7.90. Oh! And that’s where I managed to win over someone’s heart! (*cheeky smile*)

Geylang Famous Beef Kway Teow
237 Geylang Lorong 9, Tel: 9388-0723

It was a night of hard party when I went down to this perfect streetside eatery. Their hearty Beef Hor Fun is delish with smoky, slippery hor fun and smooth sliced of beef swimming in the dense, black bean-spiked gravy. This dish seriously recharges me for more partying!

And if you’re feeling a little too rich, I’ve got some nice and not-too-expensive places for you. Perfect if you’re bringing your partner along, enjoying the night with the best food in town with the perfect ambience.

Iggy’s
The Regent Singapore, Tel: 6732-2234

This is a compact modern French Degustation restaurant and has put Singapore on the world map by making it to #60 on UK-based Restaurant magazine’s list of 100 Best Restaurants in the world. It is, dare we to say, Singapore’s most famous fine-dining eatery. Of course, this accolade doesn't come cheap – an eight course dinner costs $175. The food itself are prettily plated and delicately portioned, is clean-tasting and generally good. Oh! And their wine list is excellent, providing a wide range of French Wines. So, order a top bottle enjoy the best of life.

Sneak peek: Food ànuanced sakura prawn capellini uplifted with kelp and scampi oil
My Humble House
#02-27/29, Esplanade Mall, Tel: 6423-1881

Travelling after retirement? Luxe modern Chinese restaurant by Tung Lok that’s so far fro humble, it made to #94 on the hoity-toity list of 100 Best Restaurants in the World. Shouldn’t you spoil yourself after years of hardwork? This place has the luxurious feel of a haute period drama set with its strange but sexy high-back chair and nonsense-lyrical menus. I was captivated by their delicious delicacies especially the pristine crab claw which reclines on a bed of delicately smooth chawanmushi, and probably the braised shark’s fin in unctuously rich stock which is served alongside a clean-tasting mushroom consommé. Isn’t this the best way to kickstart your retirement years apart from traveling to Singapore?

Straits Kitchen
Grand Hyatt Singapore, Tel: 6732-1234

Straits Kitchen Buffet is the answer to anyone’s insatiable appetites. Famous Singapore Cuisines are elegantly prepared and laid out amid cool designer furnishings. Straits Kitchen is the only place where I can enjoy so many different cuisines at one go! How can I ever say no to those smoky satay, char kway teow and rich curries they serve? Not missing out those sinful deserts that are prepared a la minute at ‘show kitchens’.

Enough of the savoury eh? and shouldn't everything end off perfectly. So, why not end off your dinner with something sweet and extraordinary?
Island Creamery
#01-03 Serene Centre, Tel: 6468-8859

Being a Singaporean myself, I was so sick and tired of the usual local deserts such as Chendol, Red Bean Soup and Ice Kachang. But there’s this one place which re-sparked my interest in these deserts! And that is trying them in the Ice-cream way! The owner of the eatery started off with an ice cream machine and an adventurous palate, he pioneered local-centric flavors such as Teh Tarik and Horlicks. More recently, he just came up with new flavors made up of our local deserts. It just tastes like the real thing, only smoother and creamier. Make sure to satiate your life with these sweet treats before flying home.

That's about all for the dining in Singapore. But if you want to find out more, log onto 8day.com or just buy yourself one copy of the 8 Days Magazine, our local publication. The above eateries and descriptions are found in 8day [16th August]. but of course, my experiences are included (:

p.s. due to some problems with blogger, photos of the various eateries and restaurants were unable to be uploaded. Sorry about that! Try google-ing! (:

Sunday, November 30, 2008.

After spending the whole day at Downtown East, let’s head down to East Coast Park today. Not to worry. This park is not just about trees and just trees. It’s a fun-filled place where you can cycle, skate or even swim in the open sea. But there’s this one special facility that caught everyone’s attention, Ski 360! This is Singapore’s very first cable ski facility.

SKI 360

Cable skiing or wake-boarding, as its name implies, is water-skiing or wake-boarding. Instead of being pulled by a boat, it would be an overhead cable taking its place. This is very similar to a snow ski lift, but erected around the banks of a lake. Cable skiing proposes an excitement with a top speed of 58 kph.

The cables runs counter clockwise around the lake and the participants are, very simply, hooked up to the cable on the move. It is powered by a variable speed electric motor that can maintain speed between 20 - 58 kph.

People of all ages and abilities can slalom, trick ski, kneeboard, or even surf without the wave. Up to 8 skiers or wake boarders can participate at the same time on one cableway.

The cable ski opens from every Monday to Thursday from 10am till 10 pm to the night. Except on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays (Singapore), it opens slightly earlier, from 9 in the morning all the way till 12 midnight.

As I stand before the cable ski inhaling a large breath, I was prepared for a new challenge and whole new idea of fun. Also, I looked at how the other professional actually does it. They made the entire procedure looked simple and easy.

The ski passes varies with the time you decided to spend there. An hour of fun would be $32, 2 hours $48 and 4 hours $70. These include the rental of equipments and other necessary items. However, Ski 360 is offering a promotion when you go in groups. This is an ideal choice for a nice family outing during the weekends or a hangout place with friends who loves water sports.

If you are a beginner, there is nothing to worry. A short lesson would be conducted to teach you the different skiing techniques and how the current moves in the water. Safety precautions and other important information are also provided before the start.

Skiing at such a high speed of 58 KPH , the wind blowing against you is just magnificent and while being pulled along at the this speed, it’s always fun to do a trick or two just to have a taste of how the sport works! Being Singapore’s only water ski, it brings about a different form of excitement compared to the ski in open seas or slopes. Ramps are placed at different position in the water area to make the experience a more interesting one. Difficult and complicated tricks can be performed with the help of the ramps.

So, do not miss this opportunity to join in the fun, and experience the uniqueness of a cable ski at East Coast Park! It's a never ending fun that you can never experience enough!

UNCLE RINGO
Ever heard of Singapore’s very own and unique night market called, Pasar Malam? This is a night market found in the heartlands of Singapore. But, this is not my point. What is the fun if you don't come and experience our very own mobile amusement parks? Uncle Ringo is a famous amusement park and they can be found at every Pasar Malam you find.

Uncle Ringo started in Singapore since the 1980s, and the name had always been associated with fun and excitement. While the countless events brought thrilling and joyful experiences, Uncle Ringo has became a household name over the years.

Uncles Ringo have the largest range or rides and novelties, inflatable to suit any age group and caters to different expectation of different people and offers the best for everyone. His wonderland brings excitement and fun alive! It is a place of medicine for the sorrow and a perfect recipe for thrills and craziness. Uncle Ringo provides a wide variety of rides and had been a renowned amusement park throughout the country.

Without further ado, let me introduce you a few of my favourite rides.

BUMPER CAR

Although it is the most common ride around the world, it is still the most fun-filled and exciting ride.

Known for the huge collision at every corner and bend, this ride is the favourite among many locals and it is definitely a must-try ride to experience the nasty bangs and crazily loud music.

METEORITE

The meteorite made a name for itself through the high-speed repetitive turns with twisting and turning within the circular metal enclosure. Pressing against the strong wind; the meteorite is able to accomplish an incredible speed in a short time which offers excitement yet fear to many of the people that dare to pit themselves against the machine.

What fun does an amusement park has if it doesn’t caters to the needs of the little people out there. That’s right kids; there is no need to be alarm as Uncle Ringo does provide a range of exciting small rides which is specially design for kids, age 3 onwards. It definitely brings smiles to many kids out there and parents can safety rest assure as these machines are built in consideration of their safety.

ROCKING CHAIR

The rocking chair caters to the children of a lower age. It allows a family concept of fun which is able to entertain both the adults and as well as the child. A safe structure construction with the welfare of children, the rocking chair ensures maximum entertainment for the kids and minimum anxiety for the adults.

TRAILER SWING

Imagine swinging in the air at high speed! But not to worry, safety precautions are well taken care of. This ride is available to the young and old. But definitely, there is a height limit to it.

Alright, that's about all for the recreational activities on the East side of Singapore.
Stay tune to our blog as we're bringing you more about the Leisure side in Singapore.

So that's about all for Sentosa (in our previous 2 post). Next up, we’ll be bringing you the various theme parks and recreational places in Singapore.

Places includes out very own theme park, Escape Theme Park, and also our very own cable ski at Ski 360, located in East Coast Park.

First stop, we’ll be going to Escape Theme Park!

ESCAPE THEME PARK!

Escape them park, like its name suggests, is an ideal place for those looking to host special and fun events such as theme parties, birthday bashes and corporate functions. The theme park is the best and only stationary theme park in Singapore, commonly frequent by the locals and tourists all over the world! The best of all, it’s a family theme park which caters to different age groups, therefore it’s a die-die-must visit place if you’re in Singapore.

Getting to the theme park is an easy feat. Singapore’s transport system consists of the trains, buses, taxis and many more. Our train system, Mass Rapid Transport (MRT), has 3 different lines serving approximately one hundred stations, island wide. Our bus service is currently managed by two companies and in total; there are too many bus services around the whole island. So, to get around Singapore isn’t a problem and getting to the theme park would not get you lost.

Escape Theme Park is located at Pasir Ris, at the East side of Singapore; and if you are getting to Escape from Town, a ride in the MRT would get you there. However, you’ll still need to get onto a shuttle bus, boarding point at Pasir Ris MRT station, to get to Escape Theme Park. But, if you want to walk, not to worry, it is just a 10 minutes walk and you can find the map below.

Opened on almost every day, the theme park starts as early as 10 am all the way till 8 in the night. The theme park is always available for anyone who seeks excitement and in for something interesting. Escape Theme Park will always be open for you, unless in the event of a heavy rainstorm. The tickets cost about $18.00 for an adult and $9.00 for children below the age of 12. Without any hesitation, I purchased a ticket and enter a realm of unknown with fear and excitement hovering over me; and a sense of adrenaline rush came upon me as I enter, there were many different rides which was pulling my attention away and it wasn’t long before I came upon this huge structure and got myself a ride of a lifetime.

INVERTER

Introducing first, The INVERTER!

Ever wondered how the world looks like whizzing past upside down? Here's your answer! It’s a ride so intense and original; you’ll flip over, literally. From a central pivot it swings you through the cycles of a horrifying 360 degrees, picking up speed as it rocket you through air at high velocities that made me knock out of my sense. This ride will definitely kick off a good start to the whole day’s program.

FAMILY COASTER

What is a theme park without a well structured roller coaster which caters to both the adult and child? The family coaster is design as a friendly non-threatening ride designated for children and people whom are unable to take the more aggressive and intensive rides.

BUMPER BOAT

I’ve to admit one of the best times I had was on the bumper boat, splashing around and navigate carefully through an obstacle course. It was a fun time in those colourful boats inflatable dinghies and a gentle reminder if you’re intending to visit this ride. Remember to pack an extra set of clothing!

DAYTONA GO-KART

Who says that car racing is only for the professionals? You too can win the Formula 1! The Go-Kart in Escape Theme Park involves a whole gamut of twists and turns that’ll drift you away to a step being a formula 1 driver. It was an unforgettable race that I had with another rival kart to only which I claim the second place but still it was a close high intensity race!

HAUNTED

While in a theme park, rides were going on… there’s always something unusual happening. Escape Theme Park proudly presents Haunted!! With 6 people per entry, there’s a minimum age of 7 to enter by themselves while any age below must be accompanied by an adult. I entered with a group of 5 and had a time of my life; building feelings of anticipation and fear so therefore face your deepest fear and enter at your own risk.

There’re still several other exhilarating rides which includes rides like pirate ship and rainbow. While Asia’s highest flume ride, Wild and Wet, is also a place worth the try in escape theme park. While there’s a central pavilion to satisfy our needs of foods, drinks and games. The go-easy rides which including kite flyer, Ferris Wheel and Choo Choo Train are design to provide the same fun for family visitors.

So, do visit this exciting place Escape Theme Park, with your family to enjoy both the exhilarating aggressive rides as well as the rides which caters more towards the families. Don’t ever miss the chance, as these rides would not be the same if you dun experience it so come on down to experience it yourself! BUT, this is not the end to our day at Downtown East!

WILD WILD WET!!

Let’s just take a short walk down to Wild Wild Wet. Wild Wild Wet is another theme park besides Escape. However, this time it’s a wet theme park. You’ll just get so wet when enjoying yourself there!

Since you’ve just been to Escape, getting yourself to Wild Wild Wet wouldn’t be a problem at all. But if you’re afraid of getting lost, I’ve added a map below (:

Just before I start, let us go through some of the boring details about the theme park. It’s located just in the middle of Downtown East. An adult would have to pay about $16.00 to get in and a child below the age of 12 would be at about $11.00 for a ticket. Honestly speaking, the prices of the tickets are reasonable, and you’ll only be able to understand after enjoying yourself there.

Oh! And take note, Wild Wild Wet is open everyday from 1pm to 7 in the evening. Except for Tuesday, where there’ll be maintenance work taking place.

I went in with a mixed feeling. At that point of time, I was feeling rather excited and full of anxiety. So after changing up and getting my belongings locked in the self-rental lockers, I was ready and very eager to try out each and every ride. Every ride seems appealing to me. But there is a ride that stood out specially which caught my eyes. That ride was called ULAR-LAR.

It is the first raft slide in Southeast Asia. It is ideal for thrill and adrenaline seekers. It requires 6 people to ride in a raft. This ride is a super flume ride that gives you a chance to brave the rapids with five other companions. To me, I find that this ride is quite scary for the first 15 seconds. But gradually, the ride is rather exciting. I felt that this ride it’s the closest thing that I’ve ever experienced next to white water rafting! However, the entire ride will take less than 2 minutes. Don’t get too disappointed if it’s over too soon. You can always go for another ride as there are unlimited rides! (I’ve took this ride more than 5 times!!)

The next thing I went for is the Tsunami. This Tsunami is a wave pool. I quite liked the concept of the pool. It combines the best of swimming pool and the sea to give you the excitement of the surf under controlled condition. So it will be safe as it will not put the life of the children at risk. There will also be a lifeguard stationed to keep a look out of the situation. You can choose to swim in the pool or can choose to lie back and soak up the sun and fun! I spent about 15 minutes relaxing on the provided float. After that, I headed for my next ride.

The next ride I went for is the Slide Up. Out of the many rides in Wild Wild Wet, I find this ride most frightening as it is rather not my type of ride. How would you feel if you were to plunge down from a four-storey ramp? The raft will then continue accelerating until you hit the deck and skimming across to soar on the opposite side. It will be repeated for several times until your momentum run out. Sounds fun? Then you should not hesitate any further to try this ride!

Next to the Slide Up, there is another ride called the sky rider. It is a twin-seat carriage. From such an elevation (five meters up in the air), you will be able to see the park and its facilities; this scenic route offers a spectacular aerial view of the various pools and rides. The duration of the ride took me about 2 minutes. However, I think it is rather worth it as the view is spectacular and you won’t get to see the view from the bottom.

The last thing I went was the Shiok River. The Shiok River will skirt the perimeter of the park (335 meters in length). This place is a great way to escape from all the commotion and noise of everyday life. I can just snooze your way through and go with the flow for a long as I want.

There are also other rides and attractions designed for children such as the Yakult Professor’s playground and Yippee. Thus, younger aged children will not be excluded in the fun. Family members can also get together to have a great bonding time at Wild Wild Wet together.

Yup, that's about all for Downtown East! A place where you can spend your day with fun under the sun and also get WET!
